Tower of Bavel

300 years after the flood was done,
The world was back to square one,
From Hashem the people did stray,
To idols they would worship and pray.

The people of Bavel built a tower so high,
To climb to the top, took a year to try,
They built the tower to fight and rebel against Hashem,
If so, why didn't He destroy them?

Although they were up to no good,
They helped each other whenever they could,
To build the tower they all worked together,
Otherwise it would have taken them forever.

They were spared, because to their fellow man they were kind,
Hashem sent angels to switch the language in each one's mind,
70 languages were taught that night,
This caused them all to fight.

When one asked for a pail,
His friend would pass him a nail.
Each person couldn't communicate with his friend,
From the tower they had to descend.

70 groups were formed eventually,
Each group moved to a different country,
Any language that you may know,
Originates from those 70 languages from long ago!

Noach

After Adam there lived 10 generations  of wicked people, 

Instead of improving their behavior they became more evil,
They served images of stone and wood,
They stole from others whenever they could.

With a flood the world Hashem would purify,
Those that wouldn't repent would die,
Hashem asked Noach who was as righteous as could be,
To build an ark for all to see.

For 120 years, Noach hammered away,
When the people asked what he was building he would say,
Hashem commanded me to build an ark for my family,
Because He will bring a flood that will destroy the world entirely.

To return to Hashem it is not too late,
He is ready to forgive because He is so great,
To listen to Noach the people did refuse,
To continue their evil ways they did choose.

When it was time for the flood to begin,
Into the ark, 2 of each non kosher animal came in,
7 pairs of kosher animals came too,
The second floor of the ark was like a zoo.

On the top floor Noach and his family did stay,
Feeding the animals kept them busy all day,
It was so noisy you could hardly sleep,
On the bottom floor is where the garbage they did keep.

For 40 days and nights the water came down,
All the wicked people did drown,
For the land to dry they had to wait patiently,
For over a year in the ark they had to be.

Noach first sent a raven and then a dove to go and see,
If the earth was dry enough for humanity,
When the dove came back with an olive branch Noach did know,
That out of the ark it was time to go.

In the sky, Noach saw a colorful rainbow,
Never again would the world be destroyed, it did show,
When we see a rainbow there is a blessing to say,
We must return to Hashem right away.

Cayin and Hevel

To leave Gan Eden, Adam and Chava were sad,
But to start their mission they were glad,
In the physical world challenges they would face,
But Hashem's wish is that we make for him a dwelling place.

When Cayin was born they were full of joy,
Hevel was their second boy,
In the field Cayin toiled away,
Havel, his brother took care of the sheep all day.

Adam told Cayin and Hevel to each bring,
On the alter that he built, an offering,
Cayin brought rotten vegetables from the ground,
While Hevel offered the best sheep that could be found.

Hashem sent a fire to accept Hevel's sacrifice,
But He didn't accept Cayin's offering because it wasn't nice,
Hashem told Cayin that to improve he could choose,
But to change his ways, Cayin did refuse.

Cayin was full of jealousy,
At his brother he was angry,
To control himself he didn't succeed,
He did a terrible deed.

He killed his brother with a stone that he did throw,
He thought that Hashem wouldn't know,
Hashem said, "Where is Hevel your brother?"
We are responsible for each other.

"Your brother's blood is calling out to me,"
Everything we do Hashem does see,
Finally, Cayin did repent,
Hashem lessened his punishment.

Questions for discussion:
1. What types of gifts have you received? What types of gifts have you given? When you give the best of what you have what does it show?
2. What things can we do to control our anger?
3. What are the benefits of being responsible for each other?

Adam and Chava

Adam and Chava were living in Gan Eden happily,
They were permitted to eat fruit from almost every tree,
But there was one exception,
To eat from the tree of knowledge was out of the question.

When Hashem's words Adam did repeat,
He said that the forbidden fruit they may not touch or eat,
Adam added to what Hashem did say,
The snake took the opportunity to trick Chava right away.

The snake pushed Chava's hand to make her touch the fruit of the tree,
He said nothing will happen if you eat the fruit, trust me,
Just like when you touched the fruit nothing happened to you,
You can eat the forbidden fruit, it will make you smarter too.

Chava listened to the tricky snake,
From the fruit she did take,
She gave some to her husband too,
Hashem asked "Where are you?"

No one can hide from Hashem,
He wanted to start a conversation with them,
Hashem made clothes for Adam and Chava to wear,
Although they didn't listen, Hashem always does care.

We also need to ask ourselves each day,
Am I fulfilling my mission today?
Where am I with regards to what I need to do?
Am I acting like a proud Jew?

Questions for discussion:

1. What is the danger of adding words to what someone said?
2. Why is it important to listen to our parents and teachers?
3. If we do something wrong, what should we do about it?

Creation

In the first verse of the Torah we see that Hashem is so great,
In the beginning, the heavens and the earth, Hashem did create,
In just six days Hashem was done,
Dark and light were created on day one.

Hashem separated the waters on day number two,
Hashem created the sky so blue,
On day number three, Hashem created rivers and seas,
From the earth grew beautiful flowers and trees.

The sun and moon were created on day number four,
Together with shiny stars galore,
Fish and birds were created on day five,
Together with insects and bees that live in a hive.

On day six, Hashem created animals both big and small,
Adam and Chava, most important of all,
On Shabbat, Hashem did rest,
It's the day that we love best!
